What can you use the app for?

Shopobot helps consumers make better decisions when buying electronics, computers, home theater equipment, video games, books, personal audio devices and other items. The application pulls resources from the user’s social graph to provide expert suggestions and tips. The application also monitors price changes and tells the user when the best time to make a purchase will be. Users can search by specific item or brand name or browse the site’s category list. Each item is presented with a name, image (if available), best new and used prices and a details page. The details page shows the user a price graph so they can see how the price has gone up or down over the past month along with related news feed and coupon codes and offers.

What is the history and popularity of the app?

Shopobot was founded in January of 2011 by Dave Matthews and Julius Schorzman. The application offers a consumer a number of convenient ways to decide where and when to buy a product. The only downside currently is that the site’s scope is very limited in terms of products. A majority of Shopobot is focused on electronics, which might not appeal to everyone who happens by. Users who plan to make an electronics purchase can easily monitor recent price changes and news feed content to get a good deal on the product.

What are the differences to other apps?

The service offered by Shopobot is nothing new. There are a handful of other websites that offer a very similar service. The application may hold more appeal to anyone who is making an electronics purchase because this seems to be where a majority of the site is focused. There are other products available, but they are eclipsed by the cameras, televisions, home theater and audio devices found on the site.

How does the web app look and feel to use?

Shopobot has a very clean, user friendly design that gives it a welcoming feel to newcomers. A visitor will be enticed by a soft blue background and goofy grinning robot that is the site’s mascot. Shopobot blends an excellent combination of visual and text content to give the user a number of ways to review a product. The user can view the product’s price change chart as well as an image or read about special offers and news content related to the product. The site manages to provide a great deal of product related information in an easily digestible manner.

How does the registration process work?

Visitors are not required to sign up to begin browsing product categories or searching the site. Those who wish to take advantage of all Shopobot features can click the “Join Now” button along the right hand side of the homepage. A pop up box appears with two buttons. The user can choose to login with Facebook or click the “Create Shopobot Account” button. The registration form asks the user to provide an email address and password. The user is automatically logged in and asked to provide their interests before proceeding to their new Shopobot account dashboard.

What does it cost to use the application?

Shopobot offers consumers its services for free. There is no fee for signing up and the user does not have to pay anything to search. All accounts are given access to the same features and products. The user is not required to make a purchase, either (although that is the purpose of the site). Users can monitor as many products as they like and visit Shopobot as often as they want at no cost.
